Illinois Housing Development Authority Home Accessibility Program
Assistance is available to income-eligible elderly persons and persons with disabilities to modify or repair their homes to improve accessibility and possibly do some minor general repairs. Homeowners and Renters, with permission of the owner, can receive up to $25,000 in assistance. Assistance is provided as a five-year forgivable loan.
The Home Accessibility Program is offered through the collaboration of the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department on Aging in an effort to prevent and end unnecessary institutionalization of elderly persons and persons with disabilities by funding home repairs in existing housing.
Basic Eligibility Requirements:
- must be an elderly person with a physical limitation or a person with a disability
- must have a documented need for accessibility modifications
- household income must not exceed 80 percent of the area median income
- homeowner must agree to participate in the program
